Minot Family YMCA Board Approves Merger with Prairie Grit

The Board of Directors of the Minot Family YMCA has voted to formally merge with Prairie Grit, bringing two mission-driven organizations together to strengthen community wellness and expand inclusive services.

Through this merger, Prairie Grit will assume ownership and operational leadership of the YMCA facility, while preserving the fitness center, group exercise opportunities, and the core programs members rely on. YMCA memberships will remain active.

The unified organization will maintain the Y’s longstanding mission while accelerating Prairie Grit’s growth in therapy, adaptive recreation, and community health. Planned facility improvements include:

  • Upgrades to the fitness center

  • Modernized group exercise spaces

  • Enhanced accessibility and sensory-friendly features

  • Renovated therapy environments for pediatric and adult services

“This merger protects the future of this vital community space,” said Chad Thompson, President and Founder of Prairie Grit Adaptive Sports, “Together, we can offer more services, improve the facility, and ensure everyone has a place to belong.”

“The YMCA’s mission continues,” said Preston Phillips, President of the Minot Family YMCA]. “Partnering with Prairie Grit strengthens our ability to serve the community for years to come.”

Prairie Grit and the YMCA have collaborated closely in recent years, sharing space and programs. The merger formalizes that partnership and ensures long-term sustainability for the facility and the services offered inside it.
